The Center for the Study of Haematological Malignancies, an initiative of the Karaiskakio Foundation, is a non-profit organization which aims towards the creation of a new biomedical rearch center dedicated to the study of hematological malignancies
Its main objectives are:
- To create new state-of-the-art facilities furnished with equipment of the highest technological level available
- To put together a multidisciplinary and thematically focused team of high calibre scientists
- To facilitate the creation of an exceptional network of collaborators that will include prominent international figures in the area of hematooncology.
Through this centre, patients will receive lifesaving diagnostic and prognostic information which will help guide their therapeutic decisions and monitor their treatment.
This centre will be housed together with the Karaiskakio Foundation in new state-of-the-art facilities which will be build on a lot of government land next to the Nicosia General Hospital.
The creation of this “Center for the Study of Hematological Malignancies” will provide the opportunity for the enhancement of hemato-oncology services in Cyprus and will facilitate the execution of high-impact research in the field of hematological malignancies. Through the activities of this Center, Cyprus is expected to become more competitive in the research world by the creation of an appropriate research environment, which will support high caliber multi-disciplinary collaborations.
The CSHM will be established in close collaboration with two world leading institutions in the fields of Hematology, Molecular Biology and Genome Science from the United Kingdom, namely the University of Cambridge and the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, and two regional Universities with excellent international reputation, the University of Patras in Greece and the University of Cyprus.
